Recently I've had a problem with the server randomly rebooting. Dashboard showing high cpu usage and temperature at that time of the problem. Also this is worsoned by somehowe the boot process (unlike my other server) stops at a "welcome to Truenas) screen with about 7 options the first of which is to 1. Enter to continue. This of course requires my intervention to let the server boot. So....

1. where to look for the cause of the reboot (or if the high load/temperature is casing it) where to look for that cause.
2. How to eliminate this welcome screen to allow a complete bootup.

Thanks everyone.

Which server, Brutus or Nero, is experiencing the problem? The 7-option screen you reference is the BTX boot loader menu, which leads me to suspect you may have a damaged boot-pool. As for the cause of the high CPU usage and temperature, you haven't provided enough info to help narrow down the problem, as we don't know how you've set up your pool, what plugins are running, or how many sharing sessions you have active at the time of the crash.

Sorry to take so long but my desktop developed a problem to.

The server is Brutus and reboots are getting more frequent. I have one pool, and no plugins. Everything is in jails Boot is from a 32GB Supermicro DOM

I used to have a very small case with an internal USB stick, and the stick would end up getting fried on a regular basis by the temps in the case. I suspect your DOM is also dying from the heat. The other possibility is the power supply is also getting cooked. What are the temps inside your case?

Thanks Samuel I believe heat is the issue. Last night I stood in front of the monitor for
Brutus after it came up to the full boot menu and watched. After ten minutes or so I see

"coretemp0: critical temperature detected, suggest system shutdown."

That would repeat until it rebooted. I took the case cover off and directed a fan at the CPU and it settled down. CPU fan is working so I suspect I need to remove the CPU fan and re-grease it. I'll report back on the outcome

Well I re-frosted the CPU fan with arctic after cleaning and after 2 days not a single reboot so we can call this resolved.

Thanks for the input!
