Hello!

Version: FreeNAS 9.3
HBA: LSI 9210-8i
Computer: HP Proliant ML150 G6

When pulling or adding a disk sitting on a the HBA it is not noticed before a reboot. It works on the internal AHCI capable disk controller.
Can this really be true? Can I force a rescan somehow?

Best regards,

That's weird. What is the firmware version? If it's not P16, flash it to P16 ASAP.

You can try:

# camcontrol rescan all

But that really shouldn't be necessary with that HBA assuming you've flashed it properly.

Hello guys!

Thank you so much for your replies!
The version of FreeNAS is: FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201503071634
Version of HBA firmware is a bit tricky - I see differnt number like:
Firmware: 2.130.384-2291
Version 4.35.00 (Build December 18, 2012)
FW package: 20.11.1-0137

Are any of these numbers giving any meaning?

When I add a disk a see the following in the console:
--------------
mfi0: 4072 (479507681s/0x0002/info) - Inserted: PD 07(e0x40/s3)
mfisyspd0 on mfi0
mfisysd0: 476940MB (976773168 sectors) SYSPD volume (deviceid: 7)
mfisyspd0: SYSPD volumn attached
mfi0: 4073 (479507681s/0x0002/info) - Inserted: PD 07(e0x40/s3) Info: encIPd=40,
scsiType=0, portMap=00, sasAddr=4433221100000000,0000000000000000
--------------

I tried running 'camcontrol rescan all'. It just returned very fast with 7 lines:
--------------
Re-scan of bus 0 was successful
...
Re-scan of bus 6 was successfull
--------------

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Best regards,

Yeah, it looks like somehow that card might have RAID firmware. If that is the case, you'll want to crossflash the card to IT mode, P16.

However, it's possible that the drives may have been initialized with crap from the RAID controller, which would complicate matters. Anyone know specifics about mfi firmware and stuff potentially written on the drive?

Hello guys!

CORRECT! I happend to reflash my M1015 to a LSI-9211-8i P20 and now it detects disk additions and can actually show the the serial number too.
Thank you SO much for your help!
