Agreed. My pfSense firewall's management UI has an embedded graph which updates in 5s increments. I believe it's OSS, written in Adobe SVG. If this tech could be incorporated into FreeNAS and used for network, memory, cpu & disk stats that's be really great.
Do you have a managed switch? I looked at a few SNMP monitoring tools so I could grab throughput data from the switch itself. ManageEngine is ok - simple and easy to install, and free for a single managed switch. It's averaged over 5m increments, but that's the best I could do. I felt data from the switch would be more accurate than from the FreeNAS.
Solarwinds used to have an SNMP bandwidth meter which updated on 5s intervals, but it was horribly inaccurate.
I also wanted to install htop onto FreeNAS, but my FreeBSD wasn't up to it.
