Hello,

I currently have 16GB (2x8GB) in my Supermicro X10SL7-F motherboard. The memory installed is Kingston KVR1333D3E9SK2/16G CL9 1.5V

The memory consumption from top says
Code:
 Mem: 474M Active, 1746M Inact, 13G Wired, 380K Cache, 1650M Buf, 186M Free

I want to add 16 GB more to the system. I looked up Kingston webpage for compatible memory http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search?DeviceType=7&Mfr=SMI&Line=X10SL7-F&Model=84337 and they list a 1600Mhz CL11 memory (KVR16E11/8HB).

Can i mix 1600Mhz and 1333Mhz Ram or is it better to buy the 1333 RAM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ..._re=KVR1333D3E9SK2/16G-_-20-139-979-_-Product)

Thanks

Best practice is not to mix RAM speeds/chip types AND go with tested QVL listed sticks.
BUT! you have given no information on your hardware so any thing other than basic
advice is not practical.

These are the specs:

Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1231 v3 @ 3.40GHz
2x4TB WD RED (WD40EFRX) disks in zfs mirror
1TB Samsung HD103UJ for boot

@Ericloewe has posted an excellent guide for your RAM issues/questions including your exact model board.
I recommend you pay attention to the references about kingston in the guide.

Can we just pause for a second? Is the OP aware that FreeNAS will consume, over time, **ALL** available RAM, and that having very little free may be quite normal? Tell us more about your system, @trumee ...

Are you running any jails? What types? What is your ZFS configuration?

You may have plenty of RAM.
