Questions after a week of Freenas

Hi,

I have been reading & playing for a week & have a number of questions:

1. How do I check hard drive temperature? Can it be done via the web interface?
2. How do I manually run a scrub (do I want to do that)?
3. What is a tuneable?
4. Do I need to use a Cron job?
5. Can I manually run a smart test?
6. What does setting IPMI in the freenas interface do?
7. What is the best way to give access to various jails (plex, subsonic, minidlna) of the same data sources without duplicating in each jail?
8. I have volume called FNPool (main raidz2 storage)
9. What does the periodic snapshot task do ? Am I able to restore older data from the snapshot?
10. What is the difference between a VMWare-snapshot via the freenas web interface vs a vmware snapshot within the vmware web interface?

smartctl -A /dev/adawhatever

Parameter 194.

Can it be done via the web interface?

Nope.

2. How do I manually run a scrub (do I want to do that)?

Storage -» pools (or whatever) - there's a scrub button.

Alternatively:

zpool scrub poolname

5. Can I manually run a smart test?

smartcrtl -t long/short/conveyance

6. What does setting IPMI in the freenas interface do?

It's an alternative for basic configuration, to allow you to get into IPMI remotely if it reverts to defaults or whatever if you have access to the OS.

9. What does the periodic snapshot task do ? Am I able to restore older data from the snapshot?

Basically, yes.
