It's all possible but if they are rated properly then it shouldn't be an issue. Think of an HVAC Condenser unit (Whole home A/C Heat Pump outside unit with the big fan) and it has a dual pole relay called a "contactor" in that world. The sparks fly when the circuit closes and sparks fly when the circuit opens. My HVAC unit goes on an off thousands of times reliably. But these are parts which do fail but they do last a long time

That's very true. I also never had a problem with HVAC fan. It's been switching for many years without issues. I guess in matters how it's made. I have one of these sockets the you plug in power-outlet and you can switch on-off (whatever you have plugged in to the device) with battery operated remote. It's for the garage when extra light is needed and I use it with 2x300W lamps. I don't use it much , but already is having problems with switching - not being able to turn off despite the fact that it's clicking inside.
I guess I'll worry when the it happens. You guys are saying is very uncommon issue and I hope you are right.

P.S. By the way some devices are made to be used 90% of the time for their purpose - like HVAC relays, others may have the "feature" but not meant to be used often(if ever) - like consumer grade "wireless router" that could also work as file server. You know what I mean ?

Also in this design, it's four contact coming apart vice one or two.

I am sure it's for the best, but it's not coming in my mind right now, why ?

Or maybe I'm an APC shareholder. :p

It is very possible. I wouldn't blame you if you are.
As long as you don't turn blind eye on a problem.

Is that an arc flash reference? Or did you just luck out?

I think I just luck out, since I can't make the connection. But it won't be the first time when I say something genius before even realize that I said it.:p
