Question about performance

Hi,

My system: supermicro machine, Xeon E5-v2640 v2, 256GB RAM, 8 6TB disks, each 2 as RAIDZ1 (mirror), No SSD's so no L2ARC device, FreeNAS 11.2-U5.

I've attached a small screenshot of Crystal diskmark from a Windows 10 machine which is runnning under ESXI 6.7. The connection between the ESXI machine and the FreeNAS is over 10GB ethernet.

The results looks to me pretty good.

But when I try on the same FreeNAS machine from the shell to use either FIO or DD to test speed on the same pool and the same dataset which hosts the ESXI's Datastore - the speed is quite slower: about half the speed of sequential read and about 1/3 on sequential write (with a simple DD for example).

When I read the forum, the problem is in reverse - the VM disk performance is much slower (although I use sync disabled on this dataset. It's connected to a UPS) compared to tests done locally.

So my question is: Am I doing something wrong that I get a native slow read/write speed?

Thanks
