Question about license agreement.

I understand that the program is open source. I could not find any information about the software license, or any of the legal stuff.

I want to make sure if I choose to use this software, that I am in compliance.

Any direction as to where this might be would be appreciated.

It would probably be helpful to either include or link to the actual license in the documentation, particularly since there are multiple "BSD Licenses."

@Varun Chandak the FreeBSD license can be found in a number of sources; here it is on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BSD_li...ed_BSD_License.22_or_.22FreeBSD_License.22.29. A proper software license won't address use, because use of a copyrighted work isn't properly a subject of copyright. Under the FreeBSD license, you may use the software in any way you wish; the license only (minimally) restricts copying and redistribution.

Actually, the license is in github where the source code is. That's where most large projects keep the license and that is where iX keeps it. ;)

Github might be a great place to have the license for folks who are playing with the source, but the license itself requires that it be provided with binary distributions as well:

Redistributions in binary form must reproduce the above copyright notice, this list of conditions and the following disclaimer in the documentation and/or other materials provided with the distribution.

Now, as I dig around my FreeNAS installation, I find that the license is actually included at /COPYRIGHT--a file which isn't exposed by the Web GUI or documented in any way. Does this comply with the letter of the license? Probably so--as long as the distribution itself is considered "other materials provided with the distribution", it's OK. But the intent? I don't really think so.
