Hi all,

I was setting up my FreeNAS build and trying to get the controller to be flashed into IT mode, but for some reason it doesn't seem to be found by the sas2flash.efi command. I get the simple no lsi controller found and when trying the equivalent command in freedos i get Causeway error 07: unable to control A20 whenever i try to run sas2flsh.exe

I believe I should be seeing a LSI bios prompt during the boot up process as well with ctrl+c to be able to access it, but nothing of the sort appears. So I decided to just install FreeNAS to a flash drive and boot it up. It should see drives even without flashing the controller to IT mode, or at least give me a Firmware version doesn't match.

I'm using a HPE ML10 gen 9 with 20gb of ram and a Seasonic M12 620W. Plugging into the internal sata connectors boots and see drives fine.

Is the card doa?

Not necessarily, the BIOS extension is optional.

Let's see. What's the output of sas2flash -listall sas2ircu (in FreeNAS)? CODE tags, please.

If they both return no cards, add lspci to the list.

This correct? I'm not sure if its my setup, but I also tried running the sas2flash -listall on my main computer to see if it was just a problem with the ml10 gen 9, but it also doesn't see the card. The green light on the raid card shows it has been powered.

That would be with the sas2ircu list

Sorry, they were all separate commands:

sas2flash listall - though it says no controllers, so don't bother.

sas2ircu list

Oh yeah, It's not present at the PCI layer.

Try a different PCIe slot. If that doesn't work, the card is very likely dead.
However, It's possible that HP's BIOS is only allowing whitelisted HBAs - you'd have to check the documentation.

I just tried that right now. I also tried the card in my computer rig, but running the
Code:
sas2flash.efi -listall
through the efi shell on my personal computer gives me the same
No LSI SAS adapters found! prompt.
I'll see if I can find up any documentation HP's BIOS to see if anything about whitelisted HBAs appeared.

Yea, it doesn't look like either the FreeNAS computer or my gaming rig detects the 9211-8i when I install it and plug a drive in to see if it gets detected.

I also had a PERC H200 that I was planning on flashing, but that didn't go so well either. The thing with the H200 was that during boot I was able to see
Code:
Dell PERC H200/6Gbps SAS HBA BIOS

and the remaining of that initial sequence. But then it would just hang and not give the Ctrl+C prompt to enter the bios of the card.

I'm not sure if I'm unlucky and got two cards, or something with my setups aren't meshing well.

It's True Lsi 9211 card?
You can try megarec tools in dos.
With my M1015 i've got the same problem.

There's a guide somewhere about flashing H200s. It's more complicated than most crossflashes.
