Hi guys,

I have set up my first FreeNAS with 9.10-U2 release.

I want my FreeNAS to go into low power mode when idle for more than 5 or 10 mins. Prefreably if the hard drives also go into some low power state such that the entire unit consumes low power as much as possible.

Is there any low power setting? If yes, how can I verify whether it is enabled and is there any way such that I can tune this feature (after how many minutes does the system go into low power state)?

Any inputs will be of help to me.

Regards, Pj

Yes, from the GUI you can start a power management daemon and alter the disk idle interval. You'll have to make sure that the system is not accessing the disks in the pool or they'll never idle (system dataset, stats, plugins,...).
From the cli (or startup script) you'll be able to tune the CPU power mode parameters. There are a ton of topics on this in the forum already.
Just a warning:. There is a general consensus that anything other then always-on and spinning drives will last longer. It's up to you to decide if the power savings are worth the risk.
