hi,
i am intenting to buy the same 4220 case soon for my x10sl7 to replace a norco 10 bay
above part in pic is from the original cable (inter tech)
the 4 pieces below are from the cheapiest cable i could find on ebay
price difference is like 4x cheaper or even more when adding shipping costs
they look the same to me so i'll buy myself one an test it out and let you all know

Looks fine to me, would be nice if they work properly. I think you took care that they are the correct type: SATA-> SFF and not SFF -> SATA?

im a friggin idiot.
forgot i got an adaptec 8 port raid card im not using anymore currently.
this card includes two sff8087-sata cables... :o
i removed 1 of the 5 backplanes of the 4220 case i received to try it out with my current case
as expected it does not work...

now, i also got 2 sff8087-sff8087 cables...
i put the raid card into my current case and tried to connect it with the backplane with one old ssd on it.
that does not work either which i find a bit strange.
perhaps the cable is faulty or the backplane (blue led was up) is...

either way , got 5 official cables ordered which will drop me another 80 €

Ok interesting, the aforementioned Inter-Tech cable arrived. And it works as expected. Lesson learned, don't skimp on cables.

(BTW, the case I have for posterity is the 3U-3416 as I neglected to mention it in the first post)

However this cable has an extra 8-pin 2-row female header:

extra-cable.jpg

According to my motherboard manual (SM X11SCH-F), the 2-row 8-pin male headers are "I-SGPIO1, I-SGPIO2 Serial Link General Purpose I/O Header"

Anyone have any idea what it is for?
