I recently rebuilt my freenas server and have been having poor samba performance.

I have an hp z620:

e5-2680 cpu (8 cores, 16 threads), 2.8ghz
128gb ddr3 ram
jails on 240gb ssd
o/s on 16gb ssd

When i try to transfer files It starts at 100mbps, then gradually slows to a crawl, any ideas?

What are you copying? I have found that performance copying 1 big file vs a folder of many small files can give very different numbers (4x worse) even if the overall size is the same. You might try that test.

Is your performance bad writing or reading? or both?

Have you tried using 'iperf' to make sure your networking speed is ok?

That doesn't mean none of the thread is relevant, there's lots of nuggets in there...
