Plexconnect on FreeNAS

I have an Apple TV2 and I would try to use with my Plex Server on FreeNAS. A phyton scripts called Plexconnect permit to show Plex media files under "Trailers" menu of Apple TV without jailbreak. Do someone try to use plexconnect under freeNAS? DO someone have a different solution to use Plex and Apple Tv?

I've just done exactly the same thing, so have PMS running in a jail (using the pluggin) and PlexConnect running in a jail using this guide. Working well so far...

I see the link and now I will try to install Plexconnect on my Freenas.
Just a question: Have you installed Plexconnect in the same Jail of PMS or Did you create a dedicated Jail for Plexconnect?

I tried to build the the plexconnect jail. I have some questions:

1. in Freenas I creared a standard Jail. Do I need a different type of Jail (i.e. plugins...) ?
2. I consider the name of Jail instead of Jail Id in nas4free description. Is it right?
3. How did you build the needed certificate ?

2. my Plex Media Server jail is called plex_1 and my PlexConnect jail is called plex_2 although I'm sure you can call them whatever you want

just 2 questions:

1. In the Settings.cfg, did you set up the address of plex_1 or plex_2 Jail?
2. In ATv, in DNS configuration, what ip address do you choose?

1. The settings.cfg file tells PlexConnect where the Plex Media Server is, so in my set-up the plex_1 jail
2. The aTV DNS needs to point to the IP address of the PlexConnect jail, so it can redirect trailer requests to the Plex Media Server

I 've done everything. My Atv2 has the DNS address of plexconnect.
I can see all channels in my Atv2 so I think plexconnect is working but when I try to use Trailer App I have a "No Trailer available..." message.
My Atv firmware is 5.3. Do you have any suggestions?

If you're getting a "no trailer available" message when opening the trailers app my guess would be that PlexConnect isn't working.

All PlexConnect does is redirect requests from your aTV trailers app (trailers.apple.com) to your Plex Media Server (PMS) instead. Everything else passes through to the Google DNS by default (8.8.8.8). If PlexConnect is working correctly, as soon as you open the trailers app you will see a Plex screen with your top level media shares (on mine, I get Movies and TV Shows).

You also need to upload the self made certificate to ATV. Have you done that?

You need to follow the instructions linked below to create a certificate and upload it to your ATV as well as copying the certificate to certificate folder of PlexConnect. You will also need a micro usb cable to connect ATV to your computer.

Thank you everyone! I finaly have my Plex contents in my ATV! Thanks amires, I didn't load the certificate in my ATV and I created a bad certificate using Windows. Thanks to AdrianWilliamson for good guide. I follow instructions on http://langui.sh/2013/08/27/appletv-ssl-plexconnect/ using a Mac and now all it is working like a charme! Final question: how can start plexconnect service (daemon) at startup of freenas?

That's great. Actually I did it windows and it is working perfectly. As for starting at boot I would like to know the answer too since I am stuck at this part. PlexConnect does not come with a daemon so a script in /usr/local/etc/rc.d will be required to turn it into a service however I was unable to find such script.

Now if only these subtitles bugs with Plex gets fixed, Plex + PlexConnect will be all I need for my digital living room :D

Sorry to bump something so old, but I can't ever get it to run.

Followed the Nas4free thread instructions and can't get it to run the first time:

Stuck at: "Start PlexConnect so it creates Settings.cfg"

Seems like you dont have python installed. install it using the following commands :

pkg install python

I figured it out - Had the wrong python folder set in Settings.py (needed to by python2.7 instead of just python)

Everything is working great - Except PlexConnect only stays running as long as the FreeNAS shell window is open that I used to start PlexConnect.py

Do I need to start it some other way?

-- I don't need to do the whole "have it start at FreeNAS boot up" thing - Happy to manually do it since I never reboot my FreeNAS - But PlexConnect won't stay running without that shell window open?
