I have FreeNAS 9.2.12 installed in a VM (as I am testing) and I installed the Plex plugin but none of my DLNA devices can see it. I have found that if I leave the VIMAGE option checked in the jail config that I cannot access the Plex webgui nor does sockstat show that Plex is running.
If I uncheck VIMAGE in the plex jail settings I can access the webgui and sockstat shows that Plex DLNA is running;

Any help would be appreciated because I would love to go out and purchase some hardware to get this setup permanently

That is odd because I find vimage makes MiniDLNA pop up immediately on the majority of clients.. You are also testing inside a VM which can cause problems.. It's been awhile so I'm not sure how restrictive the environments can be.. It looks like plex is doing what it should..

Thanks for the reply but I will clarify a little. if I have VIMAGE selected I cannot access the web gui and sockstat does not show that plex is running from the FreeNAS root but is running inside the jail. If I deselect VIMAGE I can access the webgui and sockstat does show that it is running from the FreeNAS root as well as inside the Plex jail.

I do not think that running it in the VM has anything to do with it because I setup an Ubuntu 13.10 server in a VM and installed Plex and my DLNA devices can see it just fine. I think that there is some setting that I am missing or that the NAT between FreeNAS and the Plex jail is not working correctly.

Got it working (not the way I would like to but working none the less). I performed a factory reset and started from scratch. This time I left all the defaults and re-installed the Plex plugin. I can now access it from the Web gui and my DLNA devices see it as well.
It would appear that if you try and set a static IP on the main network interface instead of letting the machine grab an IP for itself it screws everything up.
