permanent changes via shell

hi there

how to make changes be permanent when applyed via shell?
examples are changes of the file /etc/rc.conf or just a "passwd" to change a pw.
by default after a reboot this changes are undone. gone. vanished.

found the solution in another thread here.

but seekers with the same "problem", here the way in short:

1. mount -uw / (remounts / to be writeable)
2. make the chages on /conf/base/etc (that is was read on boot)
