I read many thread about ZIL SLOG L2ARC etc already, but I still very confusing for the how to get the best performance and low risk(data lost).

Now, I installed a ferrnas on the esxi host.
Esxi host has 32g mem, I gave 20g to freenas, and pass through a HBA card.
The HDD is 5x 2T, I created a RAIDZ volume, no l2arc, no zil etc, just 5HDD.

I also have 3 idle SSD, 1 of 120G 840evo, two of 240/256G M4/M500.
So, in my case, how to get the best performance and the lowest risk?

Btw: I must to use esxi for cost reason. And I don't have UPS.

You totally lost me as a reader when you say 'low risk' and then your VERY NEXT SENTENCE is "installed FreeNAS on the ESXi host".

Sorry, you are either looking for low risk or looking to virtualize.. NOT both.

Yes, I know vm is not a safe solution. But I have to use it for saving cost reason.
My 'low risk' means as safe as possible.

I remembered, seems, your mentioned passthrough(vt-d) a HBA will better than use esxi vmdk direcly, am I right?

the free in FreeNAS does not mean do be cheap solution.

your thread looks like you want to refurbish some hardware with FreeNAS. this is not smart. As soon as you mention a virtualize appliance, you will not make friends here. to much trouble and bad experience.

btw... don't be lazy, use the forum search. your question has been asked multiple times before.
