Welcome!

(The i7-2600K doesn't support ECC RAM. But you probably already know that and don't care. Which is fine by me.)

Cheers,
Matt

Too poor for ECC...although I do have an X79 board I believe that does support ECC....That does bring up a question. Does that mean without ECC my data could be volatile to loss or corruption?

and Thanks for the welcome :)

Search the forum for s LONG thread titled ECC or not or something like it. I can't search for it from my phone.

The link @gpsguy mentioned...

ECC vs non-ECC RAM and ZFS

Summary: only use ECC RAM if you care about your data.

In your case though, if all you have stored is torrented movies and backups, maybe you don't need ECC RAM. Lose a movie? You'll just download it again, right? What are the chances you'll lose your primary system, need a backup and find it corrupted? Slim, tight?

The price premium for ECC RAM is nowhere near where it once was. I can't imagine using ZFS without ECC RAM.

Cheers,
Matt
