I just installed 9.10 on two different systems, switched cables and sata ports and am getting the error in the setup wizard. I'm just trying to create a directory so I can record from an IP camera. It is also telling smartd is not running so I turn S.M.A.R.T. off and it goes away. Disk size shows 0 under "volumes."

Have been at this for 10 hours trying all other options.

Please help. Thank you.

Sorry about. Pretty tired.

The first tower is a Dell dimension e521
Athlon64 x2 3gb ram
Hitachi 80gb
Have tried both sets of sata

Second tower has m2n68-la Asus motherboard
2gb
wd1600aajs 160gb

I used blank DVD media since I had no cds. These are two totally different computers giving EXACT problem, bad build maybe?

Bad build=YES

The minimum RAM requirement call for 8GB RAM. With just 2 or 3 GB don't expect it to work right. If you want to use this hardware use another OS. If you want to use FreeNAS, review the documentation and the various stickies.

Wow and they tote this OS like it's great for old computers. Who has 8gb sitting in a 6 plus year old system?

These are both older systems that aren't good platforms for FreeNAS. One has 3GB of RAM and the other has 2GB, far below the minimum recommended RAM for FreeNAS, which is 8GB.

You might have better luck using Linux or Windows with this hardware.

No, "they" (i.e., iXSystems) don't. Old videos on Youtube do, but iXSystems can hardly be responsible for a video some random person posted five years ago.
