Hey all!

I have only seen posts about sync writes for ESIX causing slow file / vm speeds. But (unless i missed something) I haven't seen one just for file storage.

I have a Linux Desktop connected to FreeNAS using an NFS share and the writes are super slow. I disabled sync writes as a test and that helped the speed out a bunch. Do I need to have sync writes enabled for just file storage?

FreeNAS 11
Raid Z
3x 3TB WD RED

Thanks,
Shawn.

Since NFS expects sync, it could be dangerous.

Plain cp at the CLI or using KDE dolphin, for example? Mounted as nfs version 3 or 4?

NFSv4 is supposed to be faster than version 3. Some graphical file mangers, for example dolphin, perform badly in networked file transfers.

Depending how you want to authenticate, you could mount a CIFS share in Linux for faster transfers.
