Setup:
Server1 with Daul Port Intel 10GB Nic running ESXI 7.0 3N
Server2 (TrueNas Core) with 2 Dual Port Intel PCIe 10Gb NICs
TrueNas management Via onboard Broadcom nic (DHCP for now 192.168.1.x)
Let me preface this by saying I’m a physical storage guy (SAN via FC or DAS)
So I have been having issues trying to setup Trusenas to talk to my host using vlans on my switch in my home lab. I gave up (network newbie at best)..I had the wise idea to connect my ESXi host straight to my TrueNas server (using 10Gb TwinAX). I am trying to isolate iSCSI traffic from my home network. Ports are up on both sides:
ESXi:
TrueNas:
ESXI host has a virtual switch that is using VMNIC 4 as the uplink. It also has a VMkernel with a static IP that will be used for iSCSI traffic:
In theory, my ESXi host should be able to ping TrueNas via VMK1:
Vmkping -I vmk1 192.168.2.2
It can’t:
,
In fact, TrueNas cant even ping itself via 192.168.2.2:
Anyone have any advice/guids/etc to help me get my host talking to TrueNas?
