Ok, I'm getting frustrated over the problems I seem to be having with FreeNAS and am thinking about installing a fresh 9.3 version to a new flash drive and booting to it. My question is, can I do this without risking my datasets and can I revert back to my other flash drive that I'm using currently?

For those who are wondering about the problems that I can't seem to over come, the first major one is that I cannot seem to get write access from any of my jails. Second issue I'm having revolves around my update to 9.3 from 9.2xx in that none of my plugins are showing up in the left column. These issues combined with the fact that I'm getting a MySQL error in Subsonic and I can't update any of the installed plugins have me wanting to start over once again. Someone keep me from questioning my decision to go with FreeNAS rather than Ubuntu or a Windows product.

Yup, that is the safest course of action. Make sure to save your config first, check that your hardware meets the 9.3 hardware requirements, and install the latest STABLE as it has the most recent bug fixes.

And DON'T upgrade your zpool(s) to the new feature flags if you want to be able to go back to an earlier version than the 9.3.

Quick question here, should I select the upgrade install or fresh install?

If you don't have a preference then choose a fresh install, it's recommended over an upgrade.

That's what I thought. However, when I select a fresh install to the same USB the iso was burned to, it informs me that I cannot complete the installation. Should I be installing it onto another USB drive? I don't recall having to do this when I initially installed FreeNAS.

Yep, the 9.3 iso is an installer, you can't install the OS on the USB stick where the installer already is. But given the size of the installer pretty much any USB drive that you have laying around can be used so it shouldn't be a big problem.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks!
