Hi,

I have a problem with a volume. It is unavailable. I brought it down when replacing a disk. The alerts say:

  • CRITICAL: Device: /dev/da0 [SAT], 32 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors
  • CRITICAL: Device: /dev/da0 [SAT], 32 Offline uncorrectable sectors
  • OK: There is a new update available! Apply it in System -> Update tab.
  • CRITICAL: The volume vmware (ZFS) state is UNAVAIL: One or more devices are faulted in response to IO failures.
  • WARNING: New feature flags are available for volume vmware. Refer to the "Upgrading a ZFS Pool" section of the User Guide for instructions.
The stastus of the volume in Web GUI says Unavailable. What steps should I take to troubleshoot it and bring it back? I think I broke a mirror set?

I am very new to FreeNas so please forgive me....

Thanks

Please explain exactly what you did, step by step.

Thank you for a reply

  1. I identified drive with bad sectors in GUI. it was da0 it belonged to vmware volume.
  2. I wrote down its serial number
  3. I ssh-ed to FreeNas and issued sas2ircu 0 display | egrep "Enclosure|Slot|Serial" to locate the drive in enclosure
  4. I noted the enclose number and slot it was enclosure 2 slot 1
  5. I lit up the drive issuing command sas2ircu 0 LOCATE 2:1 on
  6. I turned it off and lit up again to make sure I have a right drive
  7. I did not check the back of the FreeNas
  8. In GUI I click on the da0 and offiline -ed
  9. Pulled out the disk and checked the S/N
  10. It did not match
  11. I put the disk back and clicked replace da0
  12. the operation failed
  13. I tried to replace with another hot spare da26
  14. It failed again
  15. Now I have this:

I don't know what to do next?

Put the drives back in. You have removed one mirror and off lined the other. As you know this will bring the whole pool down its attached to.
