I have FreeNAS 9.10 running and have my ESXi 5.1 lab connected via iSCSI using MPIO at this point. So far this has been a great learning experience.

Welcome, there are a lot of things to consider when running FreeNAS as a VM so be sure to take time to read up on all the threads in these forums. Since you are running it as a learning tool, I would presume that you are not storing any vital data; so you should be fine. :)

Thank you for the welcome it is very much appreciated (I have been reading the threads here and have seen your name quite bit). As I am using this for the learning experience it provides, and expect that I will have more questions in the future, I would like to point out that my FreeNAS server and ESXi servers are physical server class machines with ECC RAM and each has (3) 1GB NIC's. FreeNAS is providing 'tiered' iSCSI and NFS storage using MPIO for the datastores in my ESXi lab (vMotion, HA, FT, etc. and currently being migrated from 5.1 to 5.5).

Being that it is a working lab please don't laugh at me but laugh with me when I say my FreeNAS server 'is legit' although it looks vaguely like the one in you picture :D. The Dell PowerEdge T110 II just doesn't have enough drive bays so I've had to 'improvise' a little. While it may not be pretty I assure you it is legit by FreeNAS standards ;) (i.e. not USB, no eSATA, etc. but it does present stripes, and mirrors, and RAIDz to provide tiered storage to my VM's.
