New Server - Migrate or Move?

After my scare last week [1] I've decided to upgrade to a new server (the old one is old anyways). It was originally built probably about 8 years ago. With that in mind and changes that have been made over the years to default options. Would you A) backup old server config, move drives and restore config to new machine. Or B) setup new machine as entirely new machine, including setting up a brand new pool and replicate over to the new pool and change all the setup to use that? Option B definitely has more hassle factor. However, I'm wondering if it would be worth it to get a fresh start with the current best practice defaults selected.

Thanks!

* note: the server is backed up to a second machine and "critical" information is backed up to AWS, so I'm not in a single point of failure mode.
