As I got a little too hasty in my proactive drive replacement, I forgot to offline the disk before replacing it. I then went into the GUI and did a replace drive, thinking it would see my new drive and add it in. I figured the only downside of not offlining first was that the relic object would still remain.

After a resliver, it still showed as unavailable.

I tried shutting down and just unplugging the new drive and booting which is now reslivering again. ONce that is complete, my hope is that plugging that disk back in will bring it up again.

First, well aware I should have taken a closer gander at the now integrated guide. RTFM, my bad...

Question, if this doesn't work as slick as I'm thinking, is there a way to completely remove the new disk object from the system so when I plug it back in, it reads it as a new disk and I can resliver and go on my merry way? I had done a manual disk replacement in the past that went pretty smooth but can't seem to dig up the steps.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

After the reslivering finished with the drive removed, I added it back in and am now seeing:

Once this is done reslivering, how do I change that removed back to ONLINE?

Thanks for the tip, I tried putting the orginal disk back in and was able to do a "replacement" through the GUI. It's reslivering now but looks like it will at least all 4 disks are showing up (even though one is picking up unreadable sectors). I'll then try replacing it with the RMA I got again properly. I am hoping that the RMA disk isn't a dud. In doing some reading, I see people have some issues with WD RMA disks. Adding a second pool of HGST NAS drives soon that will hopefully alleviate some of these issues.

So I got the old disk put back in fine and reslivered. Went through and offlined the old disk, replaced it again with the new disk. But the errors I got in the console seem like my new disk that WD RMAd me might be a dud.

It's currently reslivering so won't know for a few hours but it seems as if the disk was rejected and removed when I went to add it in. Any insight would be appreciated. Hopefully I don't have to get WD to send me another replacement but I suppose that's better than having this one crap out on me in the next month or so anyway.

Either that, or it's a cable or port problem.
Just changed cable and port so looks like a bad RMA replacement. Being that it's a mobo of about 45 days old, I guess I was ignoring that possibility (and quite relieved it's just the disk.

Thanks.

Got the new RMA (Thanks WD for not even giving me the option to get a disk shipped before sending the crap RMA try 1 you sent me, back to you). Plugged it in and all is good with the world. Thanks for your help.
