Hello all,

I hope this post is in the right section; if not I will move it elsewhere.

I'm probably as green as you get when it comes to Freenas servers. I bought one from a friend a couple of years ago, and it looks like its a 2013 generation mini-nas. I'm sure it's due for an upgrade of some sorts as it is currently running 16 GB of RAM. It has four 3TB HDDs in it one of which has the boot installed on it. Based on the reading I've done, it looks like a newer MB that supports a M.2 (128gb), and 32 GB of RAM would be a big upgrade on a $500 budget. What would you all recommend based on that information? I was able to set it up to run a home Plex server, and file server for a home network.

Thanks in advance for reading.

Cheers

I would recommenda zfs mirror for boot/os. Perhaps use a usb flash stick or more.

for your data, how is you zfs pool configured? If 3 way mirror and if you don't need more space then you're all set afaic.

Please ensure though you have ecc working

This is better as its own thread In the “Will it FreeNAS” section.
