Why is is it when i change the hostname from truenas to anything else i can no longer access it on the network unless i use its ip

Please try to put yourself in the shoes of the people you want help from. Would you be able to provide any reasonable response from the information provided here?

The only possible answer is that you seem to have a DNS issue, but I guess you figured that out your self already. So please, if you want more specific information, look at the forum rules (link in bold red at the top of the page) and provide more background.
