Greetings, I am very interested in converting my unused desktop into an accessible network storage since we are primarily are using laptops around the house now.
Specs are:
Intel Core 2 Duo E7400
4 GB Ram
Antec NSK4480B ATX Mid tower
Mobo ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775
GSkill 4 GB (2x2GB) DDR2 SDRAM 1066 RAM
1 x Western digital 500GB WD5001AALS
Linksys WRT54GL (stock firmware)
HP Printer/Fax
I'm looking to use the NAS to get network storage/backup and a print server (Ibelieve FreeNAS will do this)
My questions are:
With the above setup, do you see any big problems?
If I want to expand storage and add a software raid and more hard drives later, is that difficult?
If I setup Freenas to allow printing, can I retain my fax ability?
Those are the big questions I have right now...Thanks for the help!
