Hi,

I've been running my FreeNAS box for a couple of years with no big issues.
All of a sudden I've started getting "unable to open device" messages - on multiple drives.
I've replaced a couple but when I've tested outside of freenas they check out fine.
Also, almost as soon as re-silvering is complete, I'm getting the same message on another drive.
I've pulled all drives out, re-cabled, plugged into different SATA ports and the same thing happens - with different drives though
I'm beginning to think it's actually not the drives at all, but the motherboard.
I don't see any issues via IPMI
I know there's been issues with the Marvell Sata ports, but I have the latest firmware.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Philip

I would recommending that you contact the manufacturer's tech support. I hear they are pretty helpful.
Your motherboard model has had some past issues, but I don't recall hearing if SATA port problems...
