This issue only seems to occur if you were to execute a script or cronjob with email from the shell on the freenas system. It may impact some service log reporting in the future.
Summary: msmtp fails with a line in /var/log/maillog that reads: 'the server does not support authentication method LOGIN' exitcode=EX_UNAVILABLE
Work around: edit the file /etc/local/msmtprc and remove the "auth login" line
I removed the line reading "auth login" after trying "auth on". It seems msmtp is failing if you provide arguments which match its default behavior.
Note: /etc/local/msmtprc is generated by /conf/base/etc/rc.d/ix-msmtp once the system is restarted, the auth line will be recreated.
