Hi,

i have following problem and can't solve it no matter what i try.
Using winamp on local PC when i add folder into winamp it orders songs as it should be. So in the same order as song were released on CD, lets say as they are numbered in folder (sort by filename). When i copy folders to FreeNas and do the same - open winamp, add directory, songs are listed i would say in random order. I need to use winamp button MISC at bottom of the winamp and click SORT LIST and then SORT BY FILENAME. I have tested by removing files from winamp and addind them once again, same error occured, again sorted based on, to me, uknown rule.
Same happens on DLNA apps, similar sort, no clue based on what. Could anybody pls help me how to solve this issue and get sort everywhere based on filename?

What you want is to add the setting "vfs objects = dirsort" to smb.conf(added in the GUI using the auxiliary parameters). However, there is a bug(no eta on when it will be fixed) but the module doesn't seem to load for Windows clients. This may be by design or by bug.

My guess is that it is somehow by design because Samba guides recommend against sorting files on the server side for due to the performance penalty with sorting every directory listing for every user all of the time. Since Windows usually resorts the files anyway, why have the server sort the list before sending it to the client only to have the client resort it again?

I think your best bet is to just sort the stuff inside if Winamp like you are.
