So, I've been playing with FreeNAS in a ESXi environment and it's working great. I have everything (like the IBM 1015 SATA controller) configured through PCI Passthrough - and everything is working fine.

So, what I'd like to do is save the current configuration (users, storage, jails, etc), install FreeNAS natively (replacing the ESXi installation) and then restore the configuration settings.

Is that something that could be done?

(Otherwise, I have about 10Tb of data to re-transfer and I just don't want to do that)

Should work like a dream. Done it many many times. Worst case would be you messed up the config and need to auto-import the pool and do some set up. If you have doubts unplug the data pool drives after you shut down... Set up on baremetal and confirm function. Then shut down. Replug pool drives. Reboot. Pretty safe and easy.

Good luck.
