I have a FreeNAS server and an Ubuntu machine, both are in the domain. In the FreeNAS machine, I created a CIFS share because users using Windows machines will connect to this share.

The problem is that I need to mount this CIFS share in my Ubuntu machine because it is not recommended to create a NFS share for the same folder I'm already sharing as CIFS. I can mount without problems, but the permissions that I see in the Ubuntu mount are not the same I configured in the CIFS share, so all the users that connects to the Ubuntu machine are able to access the mount even if they don't have permissions to the CIFS share.

I would like to know if there's a way to mount the FreeNAS CIFS share in my Ubuntu machine respecting the CIFS permissions.

Well that's simple.

Don't share out the mount point from your Ubuntu box.

The NFS vs CIFS thing is silly. If you know what applications and who is accessing the data, you can share them both just fine.
