I have now been told several times by various people that if I have less than 8gb of ram in my system it will burn my house down. The Biostar board in my setup with the G31 chipset only supports 4gb. I have found a board that has the G41 chipset and supports up to 8gb. To be clear I am just swapping the motherboard and ram the cpu and nic are remaining the same.

The question is will swapping out the motherboard require a complete reinstall or can I just plug the flash drive into it?
Also how will the zpool handle the change in host bus adapter?
Im imagining that it is the worst case scenario a complete reinstall then reload the config and having to restore my data from a backup.

You shouldn't have any issue. FreeNAS will boot and recognize the pool. To be safe save the config. The only thing you might need to configure is the network interface.
