Hello,

I've FreeNAS-9.1.1-RELEASE-x64 installed on a server room and this system has an APC Backup-ups installed and monitored through a USB cable, but cannot see the status from this UPS anywhere, don't know if Freenas "knows" if it is online, the capacity of the battery (charge %) and other interesting information about the UPS, is possible to get this information on the web gui? or any other way?

Thanks.

The manual has as section on the UPS:

http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/UPS

Hi Nick2253,

I've already checked that page a while ago and haven't found any info about checking the status for the UPS, the UPS is detected has being connect to /dev/ugen5.2 and on the freenas (UPS/ Settings) seems to be OK but I run some command on shell and could never got any status about Battery % or else.

What command are you running?

At the bottom of the page it explains how to check the status for a UPS.

I've runned the upsc command with some flags but could not get any valuable info and the information on the www.networkupstools.org page didn't help too much, I'm not a script expert but the example on that page have nothing about the UPS battery status.

If upsc doesn't detect your UPS, then FreeNAS doesn't either.

Have you confirmed that your UPS is on the supported devices list?

My UPS is detected by freenas (ugen5.2: <American Power Conversion> at usbus5) this info was taken from dmesg and its on the drivers list, my problem is only getting some useful information about the UPS, I shouldn't be referring this on this forum but (Nas4Free) has on the initial information page on the product some information (and graphics) about connected UPS systems on their servers.

All that means is that the device is plugged in. That doesn't mean that FreeNAS understands that that device is a UPS, much less how to communicate with it. You have to configure the UPS settings correctly.

You haven't even told us the model number of your UPS yet. Being detailed is paramount, because small details make a big difference. For all I know, the UPS *is* configured correctly, but you haven't run the correct command to check it. All you've provided is "some flags".

As far as your comparison to NAS4Free: 1. If you really think you shouldn't be referring to it, why the heck did you? 2. Nas4Free is nothing like FreeNAS. Sure, it's the continuation of the old FreeNAS, but FreeNAS today has almost nothing in common with NAS4Free, other than they are both on FreeBSD. 3. Any instructions you find on NAS4Free's website do not apply to FreeNAS. Sure, they *might* work, but the systems are different.

Now, this is not to knock NAS4Free. But it's just a different system. You might as well have said "Synology has information on connecting a UPS on their website with pretty pictures."

Ok. First my UPS its an APC Backup-UPS CS 350.

Regarding Nas4Free I'm not comparing the two systems, I'm only pointing one good feature that the system has! Of course Freenas has other better features but I think in my opinion that pointing other good features on other systems only should bring value to get them on Freenas. For example I'm running an UTM device that runs on linux and when I connect one UPS the systems shows on the GUI also some graphical information about that UPS, I thing this info is very important on a systems to get an overview os the UPS status.

Can you confirm that you've done all the steps in the manual I've linked to?

Configure the UPS?
Start the Service?
Test that the UPS is worked?

Yes, Its all working!

I've disconnect the power cable from the outlet and receive an email form Freenas saying (ONBATT - ups) then put the power cable in and received another email saying (ONLINE - ups), so it seems that's working!
