Excuse me if I get my vernacular wrong as I'm still learning this stuff. I have an extra computer sitting around that I want to learn FreeNAS on. I've tried to use a VM and, being new to those AND FreeNAS, it is kicking my a$$.
I have several drives available of different capaciteis. I would like to set up a RAIDZ2 ZFS pool with four drives. I understand you are not supposed to do this since you cannot mix capacities, but I was wondering if I could "force" it? I seem to remember being able to do this with hardware RAID (limited knowledge of long ago) but that you were limited in size to your smallest drive - this would be just fine. I want to practice with simulating a failed drive, swapping hardware out and all of that to make sure I really understand how it works and what to expect if something breaks when I move to a "production" system.
Again, this will be for messing around and trying to simulate stuff breaking to ensure I really know what I'm doing in a crisis (like running a drill).
Thanks for any help,
Chris
