MiniXL+ PCI NVMe instead of NIC

Recently ordered a MiniXL+ and was considering disk layout, cache, etc. Thought I might add a PCI NVMe card in where the add on NIC goes. Anyone done this? Or any reason to know it shouldn't/wouldn't/couldn't work?

No particular concerns, but the total number of SATA ports + PCIe lanes may be limited by the SoC.
