Hi folks,
I've had my pool going strong since 2015. At the time I did my first setup, whole pool encryption wasn't the recommended way to go. I've had a series of LUKS/GELI/Truecrypt/Veracrypt containers over the years with a sprinkling of GPG encrypted files. I recently enabled dataset level of encryption for one of my new datasets and I've thought about the possibility of encrypting some of my existing datasets. I know there's the potential for adding encryption to an existing pool with some legwork, but the risks and ROI don't seem worthwhile - unless there are better procedures now? Migrating to an encrypted dataset seems the wiser course. The clearest path I see is this particular method, but I think I still will lose some settings associated with the existing dataset (e.g,, snapshots, etc.) I don't suppose there's an easy way to avoid that?
Any advice, insights, and/or help is greatly appreciated
thanks!
