Good day to all,

Okay let me start by giving the stats of what I currently have:

Windows Home Server v.1, 24 hard drives totaling 33 Tb

Folders Size
Music 55 Gb
Photos 11 Gb
Public 5 Tb
Software 86 Gb
Tv Shows 33 Gb
Movies 7 Tb

Data total 12 Tb

Now my question is since the wiki states

"When determining how many disks to use in a RAIDZ, the following configurations provide optimal performance. Array sizes beyond 12 disks are not recommended.

Start a RAIDZ1 at at 3, 5, or 9, disks.

Start a RAIDZ2 at 4, 6, or 10 disks.

Start a RAIDZ3 at 5, 7, or 11 disks."

Is there really a limit to the number of disk in a ZFS pool? What would you recommend for me? I do not want to have several pools, must be wife friendly:cool:. Any help would be appreciated!!!

You need to list your drive sizes because FreeNAS can't just pool drives of different sizes. Read noobsauce80's ZFS primer. You probably want to set up multiple raidz(1-3) vdevs.

Without any other information provided I would suggest 4 x 6 x disk raidz2 vdevs in a single pool. Optionally you could run striped mirrors with 16.5 TB raw space. That might be a bit small if your data is still growing and your at 12 TB already.
