Mapping shares as network drive or mounted folder?

As the title states, I'm wondering wether adding a share on windows is best by mapping a network drive or mounting it as a folder. i e right clicking on "this computer" and adding a network location. What is the difference between the two?

I feel like mapping it as a network drive would be prefered since you'll be able to see the storage capacity information, but I'm curious as to what the experienced folk say about what the difference between the two really are.

I should add I am very new to FreeNAS.

The two actions produce the same (net use) result in the end. It's up to you how you like to do it... but it is easier to do the first way if you need to specify the username as different from your Windows ID and as you mention, you get a network drive letter (free space should still be visible in the status bar either way).

I have a problem. When it comes to mapping the drive instead of clicking on the browser button and looking for the network address for my nas it is already there. but instead of saying the sharedfiles it puts the ip address/mnt. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong please? Also why is it saying mnt instead of SharedFiles. Have i done something wrong when setting up?

It's not really possible to understand what you mean.

Can you take some screenshots to illustrate it more clearly... what's happening and what you would like to see instead?
