1. I download manual 12.U8 release https://www.truenas.com/download-truenas-core/
2. Transfer via usb drive from laptop to computer (TrueNAS is offline network).
3. Verify checksum-sha256: "2728f17ea85cea07714e8636ee11d1fc1d116c3bd384829dac101a2e9462731e"
4. Navigate to TrueNAS/system/update/manual update
5. Apply Update with "TrueNAS-12.0-U8-manual-update.tar"
6. I reboots TrueNAS
7. Done this twice; same result.

What am I doing wrong?

P.S. I am new to TrueNAS/community, plz be nice :)

Dashboard shows version:
TrueNAS-12.0-U3.1

System/Update shows:

I found the System > Boot Environments page.

12.0-U8 was listed, but "default" was set to "now" and nothing set for U8.

I set 12.0-U8 to active so the status (active) says "Reboot"

I rebooted. Same story as above.

Can you add detail to "did not work"
1/2 not performed (already downloaded).
3. Verify checksum-sha256: "2728f17ea85cea07714e8636ee11d1fc1d116c3bd384829dac101a2e9462731e"
4. Navigate to TrueNAS/system/update/manual update
4.5 click no (already saved backup), select "/mnt/tank" as temp storage location [I tried memory in past]
5. Apply Update with "TrueNAS-12.0-U8-manual-update.tar"
5.5 Says successful "would you like to reboot?"
6. I reboots TrueNAS
7. Check GUI for version, still says 12.0-U3.1
8. Check System>boot> U8 still says "reboot", default says Now.

Done this thrice; same result.

From your first post the update completed without error ?
What failed was the reboot to the new environment ?
Correct, now that I understand the process better [I did not initially understand it installs a new environment]; the update completes without error, but the failure occurs when rebooting into the new environment.

Can you connect a screen to the vga port and see what happens at the initial boot ?

I have seen similar behavior when the update reported sucess but didn't really. Suggest the following from the GUI.
1 - Change the boot to U3 (last known good)
2 - Reboot
3 - after boot, from the GUI, confirm current/boot is U3
4 - Try again to delete U8.
If successful, reboot again then try ug again.
Hope this helps.

Took a while, but I got IPMI to work on this old SuperMicro MOBO

Tried this, thanks. Didn't work. :/

I reset the config and upgrade still doesn't work.

I know I can do ISO upgrade...but I'm worried this is a bug that needs to be documented?

I tried upgrading with ISO. I think I found my error.

I ended up wiping the config and restoring.

I am now running U8.

Thanks.
