sas2flash from a not-archaic envitonment, please. That means the UEFI shell, FreeBSD, Windows, Linux, ... Anything except DOS.

Well, it's never going to work with sas3flash, since the 92xx series is SAS2.

From LSI/Broadcom/Avago's website, in the firmware packages for literally any SAS2 controller.

my very weak understanding.. is that... I need to use a USB boot with utilities ( SAS2Flash ) to flash the bios so that my Ubuntu 16.04 will recognize the card. there are soooo many, not sure which to use. have no idea what "IT" mode is. was able to see card under USB boot, but when I downloaded existing info the S/N was different than "green " sticker.
comments received, say to use the sticker, not the downloaded existing s/n
soooo., what bios update should I use to change the card so that current Linux will see it ?

Several points:
  • Linux experience here is going to be limited, for obvious reasons
  • Whatever you've been reading hasn't given you much help. The BIOS is irrelevant for the card to be detected or even usable.
  • If the card was working before, you may have bricked it doing random things to it.

Do you resolve the issue. I have a similar issue with the same card. SAS2Flsh doesn't work because card isn't detected. But Windows see the card, and i was initially able to boot into web bios.
