Looking For Lower Power Consumption Option

Hi All,

(All this is in my signature, but for ease of reading...)

I have a
  • Supermicro X9DR3-LN4F+ motherboard (2 x Xeon E5-2630 V1 and 32GB DDR3 ECC RAM)
  • Supermicro 825TQ-R740LPB chassis (2U, 8 x 3.5" Bays) with 2 x 740 Watt PWS-741P-1R Power Supply Platinum.
Storage is:
  • LSI 9210-8i controlling
  • 5 x WD Red 3 TB (old CMR),
  • 1 x WD Blue 320GB and 2 x Seagate Barracuda 300 GB.
  • Boot is on mirrored Kingson A400 120GB SSDs connect to the motherboard.

Primary use is file sharing (SMB) and VMware storage using NFS. There is low usage for Emby (e.g., 1 user at a time).

While performing well, it is a power hog. I'm looking to move to something with lower power. I want to retain the rack mount.

Suggestions that won't break the bank? (Reusing the drives, HBA.)

Thanks!

That's a super-old board and CPUs, so it shouldn't be hard to find a lower TDP option by basically getting anything newer than that (as recent as possible will get you the lowest TDP.

The forum is full of folks happy with their Supermicro experience, so perhaps consider sticking with that and looking for some pre-loved gear which should be out there for cheap from the enterprise arena.
