Hey all,
Just got back from a week long vacation. Prior to leaving I went through and shut all the systems in the house down, and unplugged everything. Now that we are back I've gone through and fired everything back up again. Now my freenas box is giving me the following error;

Code:
"Mounting from zfs:freenas-boot/ROOT/FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201506292332 failed with error 2"

I've gone back through and tried a few different snapshots from grub, and they all end up with the same error. Sadly, in the biggest rookie mistake of all time, I don't believe I ever created a backup. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Reinstall FreeNAS 9.3 on a new flash drive and import your existing volume. If you have a backup of the configuration file, you can restore it. Otherwise, you'll have to reconfigure all your settings, etc.

Just to be clear, all my settings that would need to be reconfigured are network settings and whatnot, correct? My pool itself should have all my data in the same locations? Movies will still be in the movies, TV Shows will still be in the TV Shows, etc?

Also, what is the likely cause of this happening? Just a crappy thumb drive?

That's correct on all accounts.

Since you'll be reinstalling, and 9.3 uses ZFS, I'd get two new (name brand) flash drives and mirror them. Or, go all out and get either a SATA DOM or a small SSD. Applying updates for 9.3 will be faster with the latter devices.

If you don't have a copy of your configuration, you might still be able to retrieve it from your flash drive. I *believe* there might be a copy of it in your pool. IIRC, the feature was added in the past few months.

So, I just reinstalled freenas on a different thumb drive, and I'm getting the same error.

Here is an AWFUL pic of the screen. Any input?

Nothing changed. Since the issue has happened, I moved the flash drive to another port, but I still can't seem to get the machine to boot. The hardware is as follows;

Mobo: Asrock 2750 d4i
RAM: 16GB Kingston ECC
HDD: 6x Seagate 3tb drives (Raidz2)
PSU: Seasonic Fanless 420watt
Case: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2

I hope your not right about the vacation! I needed it soo badly... But now I am regretting it! haha

I read through that link. I thought maybe it had something to do with not having Legacy USB enabled. However, there isn't even an option for anything USB related in this BIOS. Could you possibly give me another suggestion from that link I may have missed?

EDIT: After hours of playing around...now suddenly it has booted?! I don't understand...

You should test your usb pen drive with badblocks with linux or something like this with windows. As said by @gpsguy, if your system dataset is in your pool, you have a copy of the latest config in there. Just install 9.3 to a new, tested, pen drive and mount your pool. Go to /var/db/system and check fot the latest file.

Another thing I'm wondering.... What are your temps? Is it hot where you live? Hoter than usual, maybe?
