Just discovered the Gen10+ motherboard doesn't support QuickSync on any CPU for my 70TB media server.. what are my upgrade options?

I had an i3-9100F and just bought an i7-9700k and found this out. Feels like my server is pretty gimped because of this, should I really worry about replacing it etc? Could use some guidance.

Ideally I'd like HP to bring out a Gen11 microserver that's better than the gen8 and 9. Do they have any plans to make another microserver?

Well I don't know about any of your questions you asked but you did lose ECC memory support by changing your CPU to the i7-9700k. I'd be more concerned about that than quick sync if you care about your data at all.

Wow another thing. Okay, I can still return the cpu, so I'll be doing that, because I paid a lot of money for these 32gb ECC sticks. So uhm, what cpu should I get for it? in the range of £100-200 used on ebay. I wish homeservershow forums still existed they had lots of info on the HP microservers.

The single pci slot is taken up by my serveraid card unfortunately. there's another slot but I think it only takes the "iLO enablement module" or whatever it is. I have it installed.

In that case, if the board refuses to enable QuickSync then I'd stick with your i3 for the ECC support.

Some other users with a similar situation have used one of the "Tiny/Mini/Micro" family of systems as a dedicated transcoding machine running their media server software.

Like one of those mini NUC PCs I'm suddenly seeing everywhere? I was looking at those, they seem very powerful for very cheap - I was trying to get a raspi 4B for ages but they were like £90, and you can get these things for as little as £150 and they're so much more powerful I was like why am I even trying to get a pi now?

Anyway, so just keep the i3?
I found this: https://www.servethehome.com/hpe-proliant-microserver-gen10-plus-ultimate-customization-guide/2/

They have some tables:

The e-2224 seems like a 10-20% upgrade, but it would also let the ram run at full 2666 instead of 2400, would that make much difference too when compounded with the new cpu?

The 22246-g's on ebay are like £300 which is way outside what I wanna spend. £150 is what I'd spend if it's worth it.

I found an E-2234 for £120 shipped, should I grab that before it goes?

Yeah I found the review for it too, I remember seeing it back before I bought it and it's what convinced me to upgrade from my Gen8. I'm gonna grab this E-2234 on ebay for £120 before someone nabs it because I don't think I'll find a better upgrade/deal for my current setup.

I don't know that the Xeon will be a significant upgrade over the 9100F - it adds HyperThreading and a higher boost clock, but I'm not sure how much you'll be able to leverage those if Plex will be running as an "outboard solution" on a Mini/Micro system. If you're planning to add more Apps or custom Docker containers then you may be able to make use of it.
