Just a sanity check...

So I've got a thumb drive that's throwing errors and it's not "solid" enough for imaging tools to copy it.

I've backed up my configuration (yay!) and I'd like to verify that I can just do a "from scratch" installation on to a new thumb drive, import the configuration and I'll be back at 100%. Is this correct?

Thanks folks.

Sure you can. That's the best way forward (perhaps with the exception of going with an SSD for boot media instead while you're at it).

I've got a Kingston 120GB SSD that was for another project, but I don't know that the machine has any room inside it for the drive - regardless, I take it that internal SSD boot is far preferred to USB boot?

Thanks sretalla.

The recommendation was changed recently to emphasise that USB isn’t the best option due to the heavier load on the boot pool since changing from in-memory boot. The way that manifested in the documentation wasn’t really as clear as it needed to be, but the intent was there in any case.

You will be happier with the result of an SSD boot pool.
