Issues since changing to Google Fiber

I've done some searching, and can't nail down anything that might be the actual problem that I'm having.

I'll preface with, I'm running FreeNAS with CouchPotato, Plex, Transmission, SabNZBD, ans SickRage.

Since switching to Google Fiber, sometimes when downloading I'll get a "Limiting open port RST response" errors in the console. When this happens, it seems network connectivity is almost brought to a standstill.

Is this issue stemming from too much information coming in (downloading), and FreeNAS shutting it down?

Did you get a new switch when you changed to google fiber? Sounds like a problem with the switch.

They did install a gigabit switch down next to the network box, since I have a few computers in the basement.

Before I was just using an Airport Extreme base station in bridge mode.

I thought i would copy in an error that just happened again. When it happens, Transmission, SabNZBD both pretty much stop responding/downloading. Most times the transmission plugin shuts off, and has to be turned back on again.

Jan 8 22:40:59 freenas kernel: Limiting icmp unreach response from 1051 to 200 packets/sec
Jan 8 22:40:59 freenas kernel: Limiting closed port RST response from 301 to 200 packets/sec
Jan 8 22:40:59 freenas kernel: Limiting closed port RST response from 301 to 200 packets/sec

What I'm understanding is that FreeNAS is having to send out error messages to something that is trying to access a port that nothing is listening on?

My guess is your FreeNAS server is facing the internet. As a result everyone all over the internet is port scanning and whatnot and you're getting packets that you shouldn't be getting. FreeBSD is limiting those packets to 200packets/sec to prevent you from DoSing yourself.

How do you fix it? Put your box behind a firewall and don't forward ports. ;)

Interesting..

From what I can tell, there the router has a Firewall running, and FreeNAS should be behind it. The only ports that are open through it were auto-detected it seems, one for Plex, and for Transmission.

Google Fiber fully supports globally addressable IPv6; how's your firewalling on that side?

You know, I couldn't tell you. That's something that is a little out of my pay grade at the moment. I guess it's time to do some research!
