The SAS processor in the 3041E-R is the SAS1064E, and according to Scott Long (FreeBSD driver developer) it should be supported by FreeBSD 8.1 (FreeNAS 8 is based on FreeBSD 8.2).

Assuming you're planning on using ZFS (software RAID) this isn't really an ideal card unless you can update the LSI firmware from Integrated RAID (IR) to Initiator Target (IT).

But why the angry face - are you having some sort of problem with this card? My mind reading skills are on the fritz this morning so you'll need to tell us more.

tks for your kind reply. I am just thinking about purchsing a new raid card to increase the IO performance for raidZ. any suggestion on the card?

Unless your current SATA controller is throttling your disk IO, it's unlikely that replacing it with another card will help improve performance significantly. You want to stay away from "RAID cards" - any controller with "hardware RAID" will be wasted at best, and at worst a hindrance - when using ZFS which is all done in software.

Actually, I added one SSD as cache and another as ZIL, however see no performance improvement on the write. (read some times improved). I just wonder why ZFS raidz's writing performance is only ~50M/s.

Hi,

i have a recent question. as the LSi 3041E-R card worked good with freenas 8.2, it cant be started with freenas 8.3.
i read that LSi 3041E-R needs the mpt driver. doesn`t the freenas 8.3 support this card anymore? or do i have to add something?
