I need to rebuild my zfs pool. I current have a single pool with 6 disk. I have two 3-disk raidz. I know this is not the safest setup and I had good reasons to this configuration at the time it was created. Now one of the disk has started to go bad so I am taking this opportunity destroy and create a single 6-disk raidz2 pool. Most of the data on the server is just media files and backup images for about 3 or 4 PCs. I already have a backup of that data so it will be just a simple move command once the new pool is created.

I do not have a backup of the pluginjail or the several plugins I have installed (couchpotato, Sab, sickbeard, ngix, msql, ect....) I know I can go into each jail and backup the config files to restore later but that's a lot of work that i would rather not do unless it is absolutely necessary. Is there a way for me to create a image of my jails and then restore them with all of their settings intact?

I've actually done the export command before and I can vouch (at least in my case) that it worked as expected and this was back when warden was first introduced, too (I think it was somewhere around FreeNAS 8.3 or something). I can only imagine it should work far better now.

Can this be scripted to run regularly? In effect a backup? Even if it's say a weekly Cron job?

Yeah, you should be able to script it easily enough. The syntax is simple. If you come up with a script that is flexible, customizable, etc be sure to post it here.

Where would it be best for me to suggest this be a feature as part of the core UI? Ultimately dummy end users are going to want to backup their jails - while I can probably figure out a script with some basic help, there's always going to be dumber new users out there. Seems a no brainer to have proper jail backups eventually.

It sounds like a good feature request. I know that cloning jails is slated for 9.3. Exposing warden's export and import commands in the webgui also sounds really useful.
