Hi, my impression is that "everyone" recommends to use a USB drive as the OS drive for FreeNAS, but the FreeNAS doesn't seem to want to work with the USB drives that I have, and I have some WD 2.5" black drives on the shelf, is it ok to use one of these, or could I get reduced performance or run into other issues if I do that?

Using your 2.5" hard disk is fine - you won't have any problems.

USB is recommended, since it the OS only needs ~4Gb of space and there are very few writes to the media. Most people want to maximize the number of drive bays, for hard disk storage, in their cases.

Thank you. I'll just use that drive then, since the Norco 4220 has room for 2x 2.5" drives I don't lose any storage anyways, so I'll just go ahead and use that then.
